Today I present Junius Meyvant, an artist hailing from Iceland's Westman Islands. Junius' journey began in the international music industry practicing a genre reminiscent of indie folk. Meyvant's first released single, "Color Decay’' portrays the sheer quality of the project, and inspires a mad impatience from us as listeners to hear the rest of his upcoming work. ‘Color Decay’ invokes ponderous moments of reflection swept up in big open spaces, the echoes of the mountains, the unbeaten cold, and the magic of the lost places; kinda' like Iceland.

SAINT MOTEL - COLD COLD MAN

Saint Motel is an indie rock band from Los Angeles that started their musical career in 2009 with the release of their firs EP, called ForePlay. I met them at the beginning of the year through their song ‘My Type’, an extremely addictive and motivating song.  The music video of ‘My Type’ was released three months ago and it has already achieved a half million views. In August, Saint Motel released a new EP called My Type where they included three more new songs. Among those we can find the song called ‘Cold Cold Man’, another example of the successful sound that the band has achieved. It is a really well done EP that could lead this band to make a decisive step in their career, and a perfect prelude to the release of a surprising album shortly. They toured with important bands like Arctic Monkeys, Weezer, Band of Skulls and Imagine Dragons. Best wishes for Saint Motel and long life to their musical progression.

10 Canciones Indie Folk que debes escuchar.

El género Indie Folk nació en la década de los 90 gracias a compositores de música indie rock con influencias de Folk Rock, un estilo musical que triunfó décadas antes, pero que se había abandonado desde hacía años.  A partir del año 2000 el género Indie Folk inició un acelerado proceso de evolución hacia distintas sub-formas que se alejaban prudentemente de las típicas y originales, pero conservando su esencia en todo momento. Actualmente existe un amplio elenco de bandas que practican el género y destacan en el mundo de la música alternativa, aunque algunas de ellas han conseguido traspasar los  acotados límites del público más 'alternativo' en cuanto a gustos musicales, o  han contribuido con su música a ampliarlos. En todo caso, la lista de bandas y artistas indie folk aumenta año tras año, y muchos de sus representantes ya se han hecho un nombre en la música, superando el handicap de estar casados con un género menos atractivo para el público en general y que cuenta con menos apoyos a nivel de promoción.  A continuación indico diez canciones del género indie folk que considero de gran calidad, aunque no necesariamente sean las más conocidas o representativas de dicho estilo musical.  Por lo que Beirut, Noah and The Whale, Mumford and Sons,  Band of Horses o Daughter, entre otros importantes bandas del género,  no figuran en la siguiente lista. ¡Espero que os guste!
